Today I subbed for the P.E. coach at the elementary school. Taking the kids out to let them play and run around and scream and such is much easier than trying to teach them math or reading in a classroom. But I do have to say that I'm pretty worn out after my hiking trails and climbing up large rocks at Palo Duro Canyon yesterday then standing up all day today. If the maps were right, I hiked about 10 miles. I'll have a picture journal of the trip up soon hopefully, so check back.

I had lunchroom duty today during the kindergarten lunchtime (rather than 3rd grade). This one little girl raised her hand, and I'll write out the conversation that ensued:
"Hi, what's your name?"
"I'm Mr. V. What's your name?"
"Katie, but you can call me Princess."
So I smiled really big and told her that sounded good to me.

On the playground, a little boy was getting in trouble for throwing rocks. When the teacher asked him, "Christopher, were you throwing rocks?" He said no, then immediately glanced down and emptied a handful of rocks out of his pocket. I think someone wasn't telling the truth.

pat from weezer looks like al franken.

it's been long enough now that this is not new news, so i guess it can be classified as un-news: I'm going to University of Denver in the fall to start my Ph.D. I got accepted there with a full scholarship and a teaching position. woohoo!

this morning i got paid to sit and read while i was being a hall monitor at the elementary as the kids were taking the TAKS test. I'm re-reading John Eldredge's book Wild at Heart, and it has inspired me to take a day trip to Palo Duro Canyon as soon as I get the chance. Honestly, every guy should read that book. It's really bringing me a sense of freedom and renewing my desire for adventure.

I'm hooked on that Usher song "Yeah" right now. Too bad they don't have it on iTunes.

Take that and rewind it back...

Sweet, I just got a Gmail account. For those of you who don't know, it's a free email account that gives you up to 1,000MB of space instead of 4-10MB like yahoo mail or hotmail. But not everybody gets one...just special people like me. In other internet(nerd)-related news, I finally secured www.planforlanding.net, after much ado.

Today was my last day at the elementary. I've mentioned one of my favorite students, Maci, on the blog before. Well, today when I was on lunchroom duty, she raised her hand for me to come over to her table. She said with really wide eyes "Today is your last day?" After I told her that it was, she reached up and gave me a big hug. Then a lot of the kids ended up giving me hugs before the day was over. That made me feel good.

Some other crappy stuff happened to me today, but I want this blog to be more on the positive side. Looks like I might be moving to Tempe, Arizona after all. Everything is still up in the air though.

Wow, The Darkness were just on the Tonight Show, and they freakin rocked my socks off. Seriously, if I could have any job in the world, I would be a rhythm guitar player for a neo-cock rock band. I'll tell ya what...Justin Hawkins (singer/guitarist) can shred. He played all the solos perfectly live, and even added a cool lick in here and there.

But really, I began this post with something important to say...however, it has eluded me at this point.

You've got a panty on your head, son.
--Raising Arizona

i can never tell how much spaghetti i should put in the pot to boil. maybe i'm alone in this, but it's extremely difficult to judge how much spaghetti you have in your hand when it hasn't been cooked. so i've been a bit busy lately...i hung out with brandon peterson some, played a show with Plan for Landing, went home for my granddad's 80th birthday, watched a nicholas cage movie marathon with my mom (Matchstick Men and Raising Arizona), and and other things too, but i'm tired of listing them. i think amy and i are going to Sugar Brown's tonight if i can find it. i keep hearing how great it is, so i'm gonna go see for myself.

yeah, now that the spaghetti is all down in the pot, it doesn't look like it's gonna be enough.

everyday you take me away, i'm right by your side
and i don't want this ever to end

the iTunes music store is gonna make me go broke. i just bought an album by this band Glisten. Brandon and Jason...do you remember the Some Time After/Glisten tour??? Fun times for sure. Especially that show we played with that band City on a Hill and they sucked really bad but the crowd (all their friends) totally rocked out with them then all sat down when we played our set. but I loved those guys in glisten. They were the first band that we considered somewhat "big" to really like our music and ask us to play shows with them in Dallas, Ft. Worth, and East Texas. I know it's somewhat safe to reminisce a little bit about the STA glory days since I'm playing in a band now. Otherwise I might get a little misty-eyed. maybe i will anyway.

Speaking of...the Plan for Landing cd is finished except for the artwork. hopefully we'll finish that soon and have it sent off to be duplicated. also, much rock n' roll in your near future: this friday (April 9) at Tokyo Joe's and again on April 17 there.

i just realized that this is my third entry to make on a Friday. i remember the days when i had time to make multiple entries a week (sometimes even in the same day). for my less frequent blogging of late, there is only one peson to blame: the MAN. the MAN wants to keep me down, working my fingers to the bone everyday so he can reap the benefits of the large portion of my paycheck. the MAN gets no money when i write a song or make a blog entry or read a novel, so why would he want to give me time do so such things? but as of the end of april, the working will stop (for a couple weeks at least) and i will be able to stand up with my newly acquired independence and time for expanding my knowledge of philosophy and newfound engergy that can be directed toward encouragement of the arts and say, "DAMN THE MAN!"

Just like p. diddy says, "can't nobody hold me down."
