I’m a bit worried. Congress just passed CAFTA, which would allow two-way free trade between the US and the Dominican Republic and other Central American countries. Apparently, this is supposed to be great for the US economy in that it will purportedly result in $1 billion in additional U.S. manufactured goods exports. Ok, whatever, but I have a feeling that this may also lead to more involved economic ties and capitalist enterprises with South American countries as well, and quite frankly, I’m slightly afraid of what is going on in Brazil right now. The Brazilian army is amassing weapons, helicopters, and fighter jets (buying them from Russia) and have visited Vietnam to see how the Vietcong established tunnel systems that successfully prevented victory by the larger, more organized, and more technologically advanced American military forces. It seems that Brazil does not want to become the next Afghanistan or Iraq. Can we blame them?

I found this article about the Japanese creating a female android somewhat creepy.

And here is some somewhat poorly formulated conspiracy theory, but interesting none the less.

Sounds like she's singing, whoo... whoo... whoo...

I don't think there can be a better welcome back to West Texas than a thunderstorm backlit by a bright orange sunset. From about 2 hours out of Lubbock and all the way in, I watched a huge thunderstorm, just off to the west, move across the plains as it put on a wicked lightning display. I'm glad the road was straight because I wasn't watching it. I was listening to Johnny Cash sing "But everything is done with a southern accent where I come from."

After much ado, I found a host site for the photos from my two recent trips. Click here to see photos from South Dakota and the Pine Ridge Reservation and click here to see photos from New York City.

Intense packing and last minute arrangements start tomorrow, then Saturday I head out for a week to Pine Ridge, the Oglala Lakota reservation in South Dakota. From what I understand, my job is to rehearse with the band all day, then play a set of praise and worship each night. It sounds like a pretty good gig...we'll see. I haven't even finished my travel journal for the New York City trip, and I'm already heading off again. Once I'm back, I'll post some more NYC pics plus any pics I take on this trip (I know one of the days we are taking a day trip to Mount Rushmore).

I'm watching Dukes of Hazzard as I'm listening to the new As I Lay Dying album. The car chase scenes are way cooler when set to a metal soundtrack. But since I've got my headphones on, I don't get to hear all Roscoe Pico's sqealy complaints about Beau and Luke.

Yes, I actually got chosen to be in the audience for the taping of the show that night. One word to desribe the experience? magical.

At the Central Park Zoo petting a mountain goat? billy goat? I dunno.
